The challenge involved an 8" pipeline with severe localized corrosion near a flanged joint, with losses of up to 50% of the original thickness. The complexity of the case was further increased by the presence of potential interferences between cathodic protection systems.

The GIE GROUP technical team developed a comprehensive analysis plan that included:

• Fractographic and microstructural characterization using advanced techniques
• Chemical analysis and specific mechanical tests
• Detailed evaluation of the fluid's corrosivity
• Study of cathodic protection systems
• Analysis of change management procedures

As a result of the study, the root causes of the problem were identified, and specific preventive measures were proposed to avoid future occurrences. The project was successfully completed within 20 business days, meeting all established objectives.
